Phantom 4K Flex in Tampa Bay

The legendary high speed beast, the Phantom 4K Flex is finally available to local clients in the Tampa Bay/Sarasota region.
Designed for the cinematographer, the Phantom Flex4K is a high-speed camera providing exceptional flexibility with its frame rate capabilities and by adapting to different shooting styles. The super-35mm 4K sensor provides sharp, detailed images with extremely low noise and high dynamic range. The Flex4K is capable of shooting from 15 frames-per-second (fps) up to 1,000 fps at 4K, and almost 2,000 fps at 2K/1080p.

The camera lets you customize the workflow that makes sense for your production. The Cine raw format ensures the fastest high-speed capture on set and maximum quality and versatility for post-production. Alternatively, choose Apple ProRes 422 HQ to improve download time, hard drive space and simplify the workflow, while maintaining excellent image quality.

The full-featured on-camera control interface eliminates the need to connect to a computer on set. All camera parameters can be set from the built in menu on the right side of the camera body, and basic controls can be found on both sides.

Phantom operator/tech Bill Mills. (ICG600),  has over five years experience with the Vision Research line of high-speed cameras.

Digital Cinema HD now offers an extensive package to complement the Flex 4K including fast 10gb over ethernet downloads to a RAID 5 array with full DIT support, including DaVinci, Glue Tools Seance, and Adobe software.

A look back at 2014

Welcome to 2015.

As we bid goodbye to yet another lap around the sun, the fast pace of digital production keeps bringing new and exciting production tools. Reflecting on 2014 thought, it was an exciting year.

February and March brought the beginning of Emeril’s Florida – Season 3. It has been great being part of the development and evolution of this program hosted by the super talented Emeril Lagasse. Our Producers, Michael Babich and Pat Roberts, have supported the growth in production techniques and the step up to utilize 2 Sony F55’s as our primary cameras was a positive move to enhance the quality of the show.

In March, our team from the “Apollo 11 Recovery” was honored with a CERTIFICATE OF MERIT from the Explorer’s Club and we all traveled to NYC for the annual Explorer’s Club Dinner to receive the award from Buzz Aldrin. What a privilege!

In April I joined 60 Minutes’ Anderson Cooper and crew in the Pacific location of Palau for an inspiring program on the Bent Prop Program. The dedicated team led by Pat Scannon has returned year after year to this island nation in search of information leading to the recovery of America’s WWII Missing Airmen.

2014 wrapped up with the completion of Season 3 for Emeril’s Florida and the beginning of principle photography for a PBS program examining the aftermath of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon Oil Disaster.

Looking forward to a positive and successful 2015. Thank you to all the friends that have made 2014 one for the books.

Africa’s “Big Cat Expose’ series”

Emmy Award-winning Director of Photography Bill Mills recently returned from a 10-day safari
to three of the most important big cat conservation areas in southern Africa, which he documented with the Panasonic
AG-HPX250 P2 HD handheld camcorder with 10-bit, 4:2:2 independent-frame, full 1920 x 1080 resolution AVC-Intra
Mills, the president of Florida Film & Video (Tampa, FL), was invited by Chris Liebenberg, the owner of Piper and Heath
Travel, an American-based company that specializes in African destinations, to cover the 2012 Exposé Safari, a sold-out trip
that introduced its participants to the spectrum of big cat conservation in South Africa and Botswana. The master-quality
video Mills shot in the Mala Mala Game Reserve, the Central Kalahari Game Reserve and the Duba Plains Camp will be
used by Piper and Heath as an on-line travelogue of the safari for media and prospective clientele. The AVC-Intra images
that Mills captured are also expected to generate interest in the 2013 Exposé Safari, which will focus on big apes.
